MG: one of the the joys of the interweb for me is being able to experience the change of the seasons through other people's eyes.For instance,I now know that SF gets a lot of fog,Copenhageners can cycle to the beach,Chicago's climate is just about as extreme as Melbourne's. The flip side is that the world gets smaller and travel has fewer surprises.

cheers,

Ian

Wow. I've never given a ton of thought to the weather in the Southern Hemisphere before; but last week my sweetie and I watched the world road race championships in Geelong, and besides looking very much like an American suburb, the weather was positively gorgeous! People in shorts! Flowers blooming! "Funny," I remarked to Sweetie, "kinda looks like April in Oregon."

Happy Spring, indeed!

Up here, we're expecting our first big rain storm of the season, with a 20-degree drop in temps by Sunday.

BLJ~tragically, the UCI Road Race Championships were held at the same time as the AFL grand final rematch.(AFL= Australian rules football but probably best you Wiki that one!) Happily, they still managed to catch 200,000 spectators. Road bike racing is becoming huge here in Australia and this is spilling over into every day cycling as well. It's all good stuff.You are right about Geelong~it's a pretty good place.Good cycling territory and close to some of Australia's best surf beaches.

Ian

At your suggestion, I looked up the AFL, which led me to a promotional video on YouTube.

Yikes.
People play this game and live??!?

..::shakes head::..

I think I'll stick to cyclocross.

...it's a national obsession. You could say a cross between rugby and soccer? The first grand final this year was a draw, hence the replay which messed up a lot of people and events such as the road bike race in Geelong.

cheers,

Ian
